Homemade ice cream for dogs recipe by Chef Gemma Stafford of Bigger Bolder Baking & her dog Waffles

Gemma's Homemade Ice Cream for Dogs video features her dog Waffles as co-host. Waffles is a Wheaten Terrier/Lhasa Apso mix adopted from an L.A. shelter (NKLA) over two years ago. Like many terriers, Waffles is full of beans with a matching personality. He insisted he'd be the perfect co-host and didn't disappoint.

Making doggie ice cream is really easy! It's based on plain yogurt and fresh dog-friendly ingredients like bananas, strawberries, and peanut butter. Every dog is different, so you know what's good for yours and how much. Each Ice Cream lasts up to eight weeks in the freezer. Gemma created three flavours including this Peanut Butter & Jelly below. Here's how to make it.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Homemade Ice Cream Recipe for Dogs

Ingredients

½ cup (4oz/120g) peanut butter (unsalted and smooth)

1 cups (10oz/280g) natural plain yogurt (low fat, non fat)

10 strawberries, pureed

Instructions

1. Mash the banana well with a fork until smooth. Stir in the peanut butter, followed by the yogurt.

2. Mix all ingredients until well-combined.

3. Puree the strawberries (or mash with a potato masher) and fold into the peanut butter mix for a swirl.

4. Pour into freezer-safe air-tight containers and freeze at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

5. Keep the Ice Cream in the freezer for 8 weeks.
